So it's February again and I'm eying my refund again. Once again I'm wishing for a Canon EOS 30D. February 2008 finds me not considering the Canon EOS 30D in isolation. This time it's a backup for my current Canon EOS 30D (which I still love) and as a backup for another camera that I'm craving... the next step in the transition to a professional full-frame digital camera - the Canon EOS 5D. Unlike the 30D which was just released when I first started dreaming of it and the images I would take, the 5D has been around. This is a carefully researched purchase. The backup Canon 30D is even a carefully researched purchase - better low light results than the 40D.
To my friends who gave advice on how to spend this year's refund, thank you. The practical advice with the caveat that it would be hard to follow (especially after everyone's hints over the past few months that I should take the next step with my photography) helps me rationalize my treat:
- Canon EOS 5D SLR, Digital Camera
- Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens
- Canon Telephoto EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM Autofocus Lens
- Bogen/Manfrotto 3218 3 Section Monopod (Black) with 3232 Swivel Tilt Head
- Bogen/Manfrotto 3247 Monopod Support Belt Pouch
